Jamie Carragher has expressed concern with Roberto Firmino ‘s form and feels that the Brazilian international is in danger of being pushed out at Liverpool.
Firmino is part of Liverpool’s three-man forward with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, who have been brilliant for the Reds for several seasons.
They scaled up the mountain last season when Liverpool won the Premier League for the first time since 1990, but Carrager has said he was concerned about Firmino ‘s form last term and has to go down again in the current campaign.
“I’m still confident that Mane and Salah will start scoring goals again,” Carragher said Sky Sports. “I have to say I am worried for Firmino.
“He was never seen as the ‘goalie’. That’s up to the other two, but he’s there to get in on it.
“When they don’t score, it has to be a threat of bigger goals.
“Yesterday (during the 0-0 draw with Manchester United) he had a couple of chances but he didn’t hit the ball right.”
While he is in charge of the attack, Firmino’s overall game has been as important as his goals. But Carragher feels the other parts of his package have shrunk.
“Bringing others into the game has fallen and the counter-pressure and winning the ball has fallen away,” Carragher said. “I’m not just saying this season, I’m going back to last season when Liverpool won the league.
“I was worried then, wondering if he could turn it around.
“He’s the one who worries me the most and if one is going to be taken apart before the others, I think it would be Firmino.
“Sooner or later those three must be broken up.
“The targets have been going down steadily. What also stands out is his property numbers. It’s a big drop. When he wasn’t getting the goals and helping him make the other stuff, but it’s a big downside. ”
Carragher feels Firmino is at 29, reaching a point when promoters start losing their zip.
“He’s the one who worries me,” Carraghe said. “Whether it’s a lack of shape or a slow decline as you get older, that’s natural for any attacker when you arrive. late 20s because they don’t play as long as other players on football fields. ”
