Facebook is extending a ban on misinformation against vax – POLITICO

Facebook is expanding its list of bogus claims on COVID-19 and banned vaccines from its platform and Instagram subgroup, the company announced late Monday.

The expanded list of banned applications includes the notion that “COVID-19 is man-made or manufactured,” that “vaccines are not effective in preventing the disease they aim to defend, “that it is” safer to get the disease than to get the vaccine, “and that” vaccines are poisonous, dangerous or cause autism. “

The policy change is part of a wider revelation from Facebook about measures to promote vaccination. The company “provides $ 120 million in advertising credits to help health ministries, NGOs and UN agencies reach billions of people worldwide with COVID-19 vaccines and protected health information,” said CEO Facebook health Kang-Xing Jin in a statement.

Facebook will also begin providing information on vaccine establishments this week in the United States, saying it will expand the feature “in the coming weeks” in other countries.

The news comes as a study published Monday by Media Matters for America showed that Facebook is still struggling to shut down vaccine hoaxes. Two separate YouTube uploads of the same full-blown video titled “Truth Matters” received more than 16 million pledges on Facebook since late December, the NGO found.
