F1 team leaders ready to try sprint racing

Mercedes bosses Red Bull and McLaren, whose teams were among the top three in Formula One last year, have backed Saturday’s commendable qualifying races.

The sport is expected to test the test, which would give Saturday’s competition points in addition to Sunday’s race, for a limited number of 23 grands prix in the pipeline.

The sprint race would effectively deserve a major Sunday event. The teams are expected to have further talks in Bahrain this weekend.

“There are always a million reasons not to do something, but I think the concept is interesting,” Red Bull boss Christian Horner told reporters on the first day of pre-season exams Friday.

“I think the way they look at it is reasonably dependent on three events, so why not give it a try? We’ll give it a try.”

New Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali told the Daily Mail newspaper this week that Silverstone would have one of the sprint races at the British Grand Prix.

Formula One sources have also mentioned Montreal, Canada Monza in Italy and Interlagos Brazil as other hosts of sprint races although the calendar may change due to COVID-19 epidemic.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said the format could significantly boost television figures.

“I saw it in DTM tour cars that we were able to double the TV audience with the second race,” Austria said.

“I think we should try it and then be very honest with ourselves what the financial impact was, and the impact on the eyes, that we were able to generate more. and what is a display feature? “

McLaren’s Andreas Seidl said the devil was in the details but a good compliment was now on the table.

“I think we’ll make a final decision this weekend, and then it’s up to Formula One,” said the German.

Sebastian Vettel, who won four times in the world at Aston Martin last week, said sprint racing made no sense to him except that drivers questioned on Friday, including the double champion Fernando Alonso, supporter.
