Eros Now, Google Cloud Up Team to offer automated subtitles

Google automates subtitling on Eros Now. On Monday, ErosSTX announced that it has partnered with Google Cloud to use the latest “artificial intelligence (AI) technology” to create subtitles for a complete catalog of Eros Now original movies and products. Eros Now says this is the first automated streaming service in the world that was previously a “manual and challenging workflow”. Eros Now’s automatic subtitles will be available first in Arabic, followed by “other important markets” that consume Indian entertainment worldwide.

ErosSTX revealed that it took more than six months for data scientists to perfect Google Cloud’s automation process as it had to deal with a variety of challenges – with gender-neutral languages and different punctuation being the biggest obstacles. It can handle multiple species and language updates, Eros Now claims, and the automated subtitling system achieves “human level equivalent”, which is both bold and essential by the the cultural realms that are essential for subtitles in entertainment.

Google Cloud relies on AI frameworks and a lot of existing data to create automated subtitles for Eros Now, with an in-house ErosSTX team training the model. In other words, they are doing machine learning. Eros Now believes that this will help strengthen audience communication and lead to “Text to Speech” automation opportunities in the future.

“Eros has always been a pioneer in the adoption of technology to meet the demands of audiences and to build a deeper connection with them by offering endless entertainment,” said Eros Now CEO Ali Hussein, in a prepared statement. “The innovative use of artificial intelligence and machine learning will bring unique subtitling content to a global audience, allowing us to target a broader set of subscribers and drive communications across Eros’ rich offering Now. “

Google Cloud India Managing Director Bikram Singh Bedi said: “With the power of AI built on Google Cloud, Eros Now can deliver automated subtitles to enhance the user experience.”
