Freya Davies took four wickets and Tammy Beaumont fired fifty as the English women won a six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the second T20I in Wellington to earn a series win with one to play.

The guests were put in a bat and started strong, reaching 84-2, before footballer Sarah Glenn (2-27) hit twice in place of three balls.

Amy Satterthwaite scored the lead with 49 from 30 balls, but fell one short of fifty years when Davies (4-23) claimed three wickets in her last three goals, with New Zealand drop to a score of 123-9 from their 20 over.

In response, Beaumont continued with her fine form, breaking 63 from 53 deliveries while England ran down the target with 16 balls remaining.

Beaumont’s opening partner, Danni Wyatt (9), fell free, tossed by Rosemary Mair (2-22), who also eliminated Nat Sciver for a two-ball duck.

But Beaumont and captain Heather Knight (39no) led the innings back on track with an 83-run partnership for the third wicket and, although the first fell late, England managed to make a comfortable victory at eventually.

The two teams will meet again for the final game of the series on Sunday.
