Elon Musk says there is a ‘good chance’ that SpaceX’s Starship SN10 launches this week after the FAA closed their investigation into an SN9 explosion test mission

  • SpaceX could launch the Starship SN 10 prototype this week, Elon Musk said
  • The company was under scrutiny by the Federal Aviation Administration
  • The study looked at the main cause of the SN9 prototype exploding
  • The group found no threat, seeing SN10 evacuated for removal
  • SN10 made the same flight at an altitude of six miles in the air

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has closed their study of a startup exploding StartX SN9 clearing the way for an SN10 test flight. ‘

The inspection focused on ensuring the safety of operations, which found that the explosion did not endanger the public and there was debris in designated risk areas.

The news from the FAA means SpaceX may move forward with the launch of its latest prototype, which CEO Elon Musk says has a ‘good flight opportunity’ this week. ‘

Road closures around SpaceX’s Boca Chica, Texas facility say space flight operations are scheduled for Feb. 22 from 9am GMT to 6pm GMT, but it’s unclear if the company is conducting experiments or will see the world SN10 take the first six miles high.

The FAA unveiled an investigation into SpaceX after they launched the Starship SN9 on Feb. 2 which ended in the rocket exploding into a ball of flames as it attempted to land.

SN9 picked up around 3:24 pm ET on February 4 from SpaceX’s Boca Chica test facility.

The giant rocket hit the target six miles in about four minutes in flight and then succeeded in aerodynamic landing on its side as it crashed to the ground.

However, the prototype was unable to move into the upright position before it landed on the starting block, limiting its ability to stick ashore.

It came down with a deafening accident, and exploded into bright orange flames and a cloud of dust, but the fire did not spread.

Following the announcement, the FAA opened an investigation into the discrepancy to determine whether SpaceX followed protocols – specifically that no one or object was endangered during the explosion.

‘The FAA’s main priority in regulating commercial space transport is to ensure safe operations, even if there is an anomaly,’ the federal agency told DailyMail.com in a statement.

‘The FAA will oversee the investigation into the misunderstanding involving the prototype SpaceX Starship SN9 in Boca Chica, Texas. ‘

‘While this was an unrelated test flight, the study will identify the root cause of today’s inequality and potential opportunities to increase safety as the program develops. ‘

Just as many watched the live stream, the FAA concluded that the tape occurred at the time of the rocket’s re-entry.

‘SN9 vehicle failed within FAA safety analysis limits,’ FAA spokesman said CNN. ‘His unsuccessful trip and explosion did not endanger the public or the building.’

The news means SN10 would be launching from the test facility and trying out the ‘belly flop’ iconic movement on the return journey – but hopefully the latest prototype can still land unlike before.
