Tesla, led by Elon Musk, confirmed it bought about $ 1.5 billion in bitcoin in January and expects to start accepting it as payment in the future.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced late Tuesday that it is now possible to buy Tesla vehicles in the U.S. with bitcoin.
The automaker revealed last month that it had bought $ 1.5 billion worth of bitcoin and would begin accepting the world’s most popular cryptocurrency as a payment method.
“You can now buy Tesla with Bitcoin,” he tweeted.
People outside the U.S. will be able to buy Tesla with bitcoin “later this year,” Musk said, without specifying which countries.
To accept the payment, Musk said Tesla uses “in-house” and “open source” software.
He said Tesla “operates bitcoin nodes directly.” The nodes of the computers are on a bitcoin network that works to authenticate transactions and to avoid the cryptocurrency being spent twice.
