Elon Musk just became the richest person in the world, with a net worth of more than $ 185 billion.
Thursday’s rise in Tesla’s share price pushed Musk past Jeff Bezos, who had been the richest man since 2017 and is currently worth around $ 184 billion. Musk’s rise in wealth over the past year marks the fastest rise to the top of the rich list in history – and marks a dramatic financial turnaround for the famous entrepreneur who was just 18 months ago in the headlines for quick cash launches of Tesla and its personal levers against Tesla Stock.
Musk in 2020 started worth about $ 27 billion, and was almost in the top 50 richest people.
The price of Tesla ‘s rocket share – which has risen more than ninefold over the past year – coupled with its generous pay package has added more than $ 150 billion to its net worth.
At the same time, Amazon’s share price has been more volatile due to the potential for more regulation from Washington.
Elon Musk overtook Warren Buffett in July to become the seventh richest man. In November, Musk ran past Bill Gates to become the second richest man. Musk has gained more wealth over the past 12 months than Bill Gates ’total net worth of $ 132 billion.
Tesla shares recently traded at around $ 790, up more than 4% in Thursday trading. The company’s market value has grown to $ 737.6 billion.
