Egypt’s Mohamed makes the difference in Galatasaray’s loss over Fenerbahce

The Egyptian star made a good start to life in Turkey’s top flight with another goal that gave Terim’s men a crucial win at Ulker Stadium

Mostafa Mohamed scored the only goal that gave Galatasaray a significant 1-0 win over rivals Fenerbahce in Saturday’s Intercontinental Derby in the Turkish Super Lig.

Egypt went on to join the Lions on a one-and-a-half-year loan deal from Zamalek on Monday, making it to two goals in two games since his arrival.

On Tuesday, Mohamed announced his presence in Turkey by sealing Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over league champions Istanbul Basaksehir from the penalty spot and continued from there at Ulker Stadium on Saturday.

He was a cagey friend in the Intercontinental Derby until Mohamed broke the shutout after benefiting from Emre Kilinc’s support in the 54th minute.

The goal in the second half put the Lions power to the top of the Super Lig table with a better goal difference ahead of Fenerbahce, even though they are level on 48 points after 23 matches.

Mohamed played all the time while the Nigerian duo Henry Onyekuru and Oghenekaro Etebo were also in action for the visitors at Ulker Stadium.

Tanzania star Mbwana Samatta, on the other hand, was on the parade for 78 minutes but the loanee Aston Villa could not add to his four-goal series in 16 league appearances for the Yellow Canaries.

They were also descended from Nigerian Bright Osayi-Samuel and Senegal striker Papiss Cisse in action in the game.

The loss ended Fenerbahce’s 10-game unbeaten run in all competitions while Galatasaray have now won five league games in a row.

Mohamed will be hoping to continue his goal-running run when Galatasaray host Kasimpasa for their next Super Lig match on February 14 while Fenerbahce at Samatta host Istanbul Basaksehir in the Turkish Cup on Tuesday before Saturday’s league trip to Fatih Karagumruk.
