This begs the question – is it safe to eat fruit for dessert? Famous nutritionist Pooja Makhija seems to have a simple explanation for the same thing.

Pooja Makhija recently took her Instagram hand to share a short video where she shares the right time to eat fruit. According to Pooja, one may not tie fruit to the main meal or eat it as a dessert; instead, fruit must be eaten as a stand-alone food to get the maximum benefits.

Pooja Makhija shares 2 reasons why you need to eat fruit as a separate food:

1. Fruits have volatile nutrients. The vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are lost waiting to be digested with proteins and carbs of the main meal.

2. It adds to the calorie pool of the main meal you have eaten. Anything that your body cannot digest is stored as fat.

“Would you like to store your innocent fruit in your body as fat?” she asked. If you want to enjoy fruit to the heart, then include them in your diet “as an individual snack,” Pooja Makhija adds.
