Dutch investigate why Boeing 747 lost engine parts shortly after takeoff

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – The Dutch Safety Board said it was investigating what caused the Boeing 747-400 to lose engine parts shortly after taking off from Maastricht airport on Saturday.

The cargo plane spread mostly small metal parts over the southern Dutch city of Meerssen on Saturday afternoon, causing damage to cars and lightly injuring one woman, local media reported.

“Our investigation is still at an early stage, it is too early to reach a decision,” a spokesman for the Dutch Safety Board said on Monday.

Witnesses said they saw a fire in one of the engines of the plane, which landed safely at Liege airport in Belgium, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) south of Maastricht.

Boeing said on Sunday that it was recommending that airlines stop 777 flights, after such a United Airlines plane spread debris over Denver in the United States at the weekend after the engine crashed. their right to fail.
