Don’t fall for this WhatsApp Women’s Day scam

WhatsApp is the instant messaging app for users across the globe. This also makes the app vulnerable to scams that often try to deceive users. The latest WhatsApp scam is available with an offer from Adidas for women during International Women’s Day.

A WhatsApp message with a link saying “Adidas Women’s Day gift” is being circulated on the app. The message states that it is an offer from Adidas that is offering 1 million pairs of shoes for Women’s Day. First impressions with BGR India, the link itself looks suspicious because of the nature of the message. There are also a few other things to note such as the URL that went wrong with the word “Adidas” as “Adidass”.

Clicking on the link opens a new page with the messages, “Congratulations! You can get free shoes from adidas for Women’s Day. ”There is also a picture of an Adidas pair of shoes on the page. At the top, the Adidas logo is visible with buttons for the tablet, a checkout, and a shopping bag. But these buttons are not clickable.

The link itself looks suspicious, and should not be clicked on in the first place. Also, any message or link that says it offers something for free “should be avoided at all costs. WhatsApp also labels such messages “forward” or “forwarded frequently” which should be a warning. It is best to avoid such suspicious messages, and also not to send them to other acquaintances. This can be an easy way for hackers to dump users who may be prey to such tricks and scams.
