Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller Bridge will renew “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” for Amazon

Two of the most esteemed television producers today, Donland Glover (“Atlanta”) andPhoebe Waller-Bridge (“Playbag”) announced that they will collaborate on the creation of a new action-comedy series, based on the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith'” (Mr. And Mrs. Smith).

The two have produced and will even star in a series produced for the Amazon Prime network, which is expected to air in 2022. The series has been secretly run in recent months, as part of the development agreement of Waller-Bridge on Amazon, the network that purchased its previous series, “Playbag” (originally aired in the UK on BBC3) in a global broadcast. The two series are being developed by the two together with screenwriter Francesca Sloan (“Fargo”, “The First Mission”).

The series is a remake of the 2005 film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” in which they played the couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The film was a huge success and grossed about $ 500 million worldwide. That film was also, of course, a novelty for a film of the same name directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1941.

Waller-Bridge arrives at the new series at the height of its success. In 2019 she won three Emmy Awards for “Playbag”, and provided additional awards to her partners in the series as well as another series she created, “Kill Eve”. Glover also comes at the height of his success, which combines an extensive acting career, a rap career under the name “Childish Gambino” and the creation of the “Atlanta” series for which he also won the Emmy Award.

Also for Glover this is not the first piece for Amazon. The creator developed for the company the short musical film “Guava Island” in 2019, in which he starred alongside singer Rihanna.

The two creators first met when they starred together in the film “Solo: The Star Wars Story”, In which Glover played the young Lando Clarisian alongside Waller-Bridge who contributed her voice to the robotic character L3-37.

The two chose to present the new project to the world through an entertaining video on Instagram, in which they imitate famous trends on the tic-tac-toe platform. Bridge is seen in the video starting to shoot her version of the “Silhouette Challenge” trend that has become popular in recent weeks where people are first photographed in the light to the tune of the song “Put Your Head on my Shoulder” and then move on to a dark and reddish filter. Bridge of course grinned at the challenge and cut the video before reaching the silhouette stage.
