Discord could work on its own version of a clubhouse, Consumer Report

Discord could work on a Club House-like feature, as some users do on Reddit. Discord already allows users to chat over voice-only or video calls but that is limited to a small group. The new feature, called Stage Channel, will allow Discord to host a wider range of users on a single server. Clubhouse was launched in April 2020 and since then has been very popular with users. Twitter has already introduced their Clubhouse option with Twitter Spaces, while Facebook and Telegram are developing their own versions.

Discord’s Stage Channel was discovered accidentally by a Reddit user, first seen by XDA developers. This feature is next to the Text, Voice, and Publishing channels that are in Discord. The new Channel will be limited to audio calls intended for a larger audience. This feature will have several speakers where the rest of the audience can ask to speak, and the main speakers can choose who can speak from the audience. This is very similar to how the Clubhouse works.

The Reddit post that described the feature has now been taken down. Even though the feature was visible to a select number of Discord users, there is no information from the company regarding the official release of the feature. A Reddit post also clarified that while users were able to view the Channel, they were not able to use the feature as expected. However, it was very unlikely that public beta testing for the feature would be released soon as Discord data miners only saw this feature a day or two ago.

In other Discord – related news, WallStreetBets was banned from Discord in January this year for its uselessness to mitigate the use of hate speech on their servers. A representative from Discord said the move came after several warnings to the investment consortium for violating community guidelines on the platform.
