Did you save Lampard? 0: 1 to Chelsea over Fulham

Beginning of an article

The 19th round of the Premier League kicked off today (Saturday) with five games, and in the first, Sam Allardyce scored his first win as West Bromwich Albion coach, with a dramatic 2-3 draw over Wolves. Subsequently, Brighton scored 0-1 over Leeds and West Ham beat Burnley by the same margin. Chelsea later scored a costly 0-1 win over Fulham from a late Mason Mount victory, which may have saved coach Frank Lampard’s shift.

Fulham – Chelsea 1: 0
Against the backdrop of rumors of change emerging on the lines and the negative sequence of results that drew a lot of pressure, Frank Lampard and the Blues were 12 minutes away from another disappointment that would probably have ended the manager’s path at the club. One of Chelsea’s biggest symbols came to Craven Cottage after not winning the last three games and achieving one win in six, and tonight against Fulham’s bottom side he barely scored the three points.

Despite playing against ten players from the 44th minute, following a direct red card from Anthony Robinson that eased Cesar Aspliquata’s sharpness, Chelsea continued to struggle, until the 78th minute came. Alphonse Areola was unable to cope with Ben Chillwell’s simple level and top to center, and Mason Mount sent a bomb into the net. This is Chelsea’s 800th foreign goal in the Premier League, with only two – Manchester United (933) and Arsenal (817) having done so before it.

The victory lifted the Blues to seventh place in the table, being just four points away from second-placed Liverpool but playing one game more than the teams ahead of them. In contrast, its London neighbor is ranked below the red line with just 12 points.

Wolves – West Bromwich Albion 3: 2
Sam Allardyce’s team came after seven games without a win, compared to the Wolves who put up five such games, but in the end the Buggies were the ones who finished with their hand on the top, in a game with two revolutions. Mathews Pereira scored the first for Bromic from the penalty spot in the eighth minute, but Willie Bolly cooked for Fabio Silva to equalize in the 38th minute, setting up a reversal himself before going down to the break (43).

West Bromwich did not give up, and responded with a quick turnaround of their own early in the second half when Sami Ajai equalized 2-2 in the 52nd minute, and just four minutes later, Mathews Pereira completed a double from the penalty spot, securing the win. Thanks to the victory, Allardyce has achieved his first victory since replacing Slaven Bilic, and now Bromic, who is in the penultimate place, is three points away from a safe haven.

Leicester – Southampton 0: 2
The alternative? A day before Liverpool and Manchester United meet at Anfield, the Foxes rose to second place in the table after a victory over the Saints. Brendan Rogers’ players put together a second win and went up to a balance of 35 points, one less than the Red Devils and 2 more than the champion, with both of course missing a game.

The lead came in the 37th minute when James Madison received a pass from Murray Tillmans, advanced towards the extension and sent a powerful kick that subdued Alex McCarthy. The guest, who beat Liverpool in the last round, was unable to come back until the end and even absorbed the second deep within extra time. Tillmans provided second cooking during an outburst and Harvey Barnes ran free until extension and closed interest.

West Ham – Burnley 0: 1
The Hammers completed three consecutive wins in all competitions with a small 0: 1 against the bottom team thanks to a goal by Michael Antonio. The English midfielder scored a great goal from an extension in the ninth minute, from which Burnley could not return. Due to the result, the guest was unable to escape the red line and the 4-point gap may decrease at the end of the cycle. West Ham, on the other hand, came close to the top of the table.

Leeds – Brighton 1: 0
At a good time. After nine rounds without a win Brighton can finally smile. On the other hand, the host was stopped after two consecutive victories. Alexis Mack Alistair cooked up the winning goal for Neil Moffey in the 17th minute, which lifted Brighton to 16th place and kept them out of the red line despite no big game. Leeds, on the other hand, remained in 12th place, after a mediocre game in which they only kicked twice for the frame.
