Jessica Walter has died. The five-decade-old Emmy-winning actress died asleep at her home in New York City on Wednesday, March 24, Deadline reports.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Walter had an early interest in acting, attending the New York City High School of Performing Arts. She began her career in theater, winning the Clarence Derwent award in 1963 for her Broadway Outstanding Achievement in Finish picture. Her first part was on screen in NBC Flipper in 1964, appearing in the program “300 Feet Below.” That same year, Walter made her first famous film in Lilith. “It was inspiring, because there was Warren Beatty, who was a star,” Walter told The AV Club in 2012. “He had just been inside Beauty in the grass. He was a big, big and [we had] an amazing director by the name of Robert Rossen who performed All the King’s men, An Hustler… Jean Seberg was in the film, and she was well at the top of the game at the time. She had just been inside St. Joan for Otto Preminger. In fact, this was my first film, and it was Gene Hackman ‘s first film. ”
Walter won her first Emmy Award early in her career for Amy Prentiss in 1975. She was re-nominated in 1977 and 1980 in her work. The streets of San Francisco and Trapper John MD, respectively, and received her last Emmy nomination 25 years later for playing country countryman Lucille Bluth on Arrested improvement. Her portrayal as Lucille Bluth became a huge fan favorite, appearing frequently in memes and pop culture nearly two decades later.
