Developer banned from Steam for studio designation Very Positive

Account removed for “handling reviews”

A developer has been banned from Steam for naming their company “Very Positive,” in an attempt to convince players that this is the review stage.

As Simon Carless noted in his GameDiscoverCo newsletter, the developer changed the “Developer” and “Publisher” fields on their Steam page to the words “Very Positive,” making it easy to mistake these for the real reviews for the title, Emoji Evolution, when you look at a scene.

Speaking to Vice, developer Emoji Evolution said they knew “reviews have a huge impact on the customer’s decision,” and noted that the developer and publisher domains were close to the level of reviews, which as well as using the same color, they decided to “use it for [their] reasons. ” (see image shared by Simon Carless, right)

At the time, the developer was assuming it wouldn’t be “an issue with Steam,” saying Valve “fully understands how small this trick is.”

However, as the story continued to receive coverage from major retail outlets, Valve ended up banning the developer’s account for “review handling,” they said. Twitter.

They added that they did not “agree” with the allegation and will contact Steam support.
