Democratic lawmakers today (Monday) unveiled the proposal to oust incumbent President Donald Trump following his involvement in the violent burglary incidents in the Capitol building last week.
In the document, only one indictment is listed, Trump is accused of incitement and attempting to lead an uprising. “President Trump has seriously endangered the United States and its institutions of government. He has endangered the integrity of the democratic system, interfered in the transfer of power and endangered members of the legislature.”
Politico reported that Democrats already have the majority needed to pass the removal in the House of Representatives, some 218 votes in favor, but are unlikely to get enough votes to pass the proposal in the Senate, where Republicans still have a majority.

Senate Democratic Majority Leader Stenny Hoyer told Reuters that discussions on the impeachment proposal are expected to begin Wednesday. “There’s a good chance we’ll vote on Wednesday,” Hoyer said. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said: “Our next step will be to bring the removal to the legislature, and that’s what we intend to do.”
Meanwhile, the National Guard Office of the U.S. Department of Defense today confirmed that it would send 15,000 guard soldiers in order to maintain order during the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. General Daniel Hawkenson estimated that up to 10,000 soldiers would arrive in the capital by Saturday.
