Death of children in a fire in the Negev: The possibility of an electrical failure is ruled out

The girl tragedy: Lila (four and a half), Khaled (3) and Ibarr (1.5) Muhammad Abu Sabit, perished this morning (Thursday) in a fire that broke out in their house. The three toddlers were brought to a local crib when they were unconscious as a result of smoke inhalation. The Fire and Rescue Commissioner, Rabbi Tafser Dedi Simchi, visited the family home in the locality and said that “the findings of the investigation rule out a case of electrical failure or unsafe use of the heater.”

The commissioner arrived at the family home accompanied by the commander of the Southern District, Tafser Shmulik Friedman, and the commander of the Beer Sheva station, Mishnah Tafser Moshe Amar. The two updated Chief Simchi with initial findings that emerged from the work of fire investigators at the scene and in the details of the incident.

Simchi expressed his condolences to the family following the heavy disaster and noted that fire investigators ruled out the possibility that the fire ended in electrical failure or unsafe use of a heater. The commissioner added: “We already have different directions for the cause of the fire and we are now waiting for the results of the laboratory.”

Even before he arrived at the family home, a happy commissioner met with the head of the Hura council, Habs Al-Atauna, and stressed to him the importance of fire safety advocacy efforts in the generational society. The commissioner further clarified that installing a life-saving smoke detector that could alert in real time because a fire could have changed the tragic outcome of the incident.

About a year ago, a girl set up a new fire station, which came to provide an operational response to the residents of the area, but during the fire this morning, the children were evacuated to a local clinic without the incident being reported to the emergency and fire departments. Following the incident, a special investigation team was set up with the participation of firefighting officers from the Fire Investigation Department and police officers from the Criminal Identification Department.
