Daniel Cormier defends Colby Covington’s decision to reject Leon Edwards’ fight

Daniel Cormier has defended Colby Covington’s refusal to fight Leon Edwards on short notice. The former UFC Heavyweight champion included his thoughts on why turning Chaos down against a fight against Edwards was the No.1 fighter’s favorite Welterweight fighter’s record.

In the recent edition of the DC & Helwani show, Cormier disagreed with co-host Ariel Helwani, saying he feels Colby Covington did not make a botch by fighting Leon Edwards.

The former UFC double champion believes that, as Colby Covington fights, he would need more time to prepare for a matchup against Edwards for March 13th.

“I don’t know if he made bottles in the sense that he didn’t have much time. It’s not like he had a full camp to prepare and Ariel, you can only talk about just matching it with you have to take it to all different sides, one, Colby Covington because of the way he fights, the result, and the effort he fights with, you can’t get that in As he fights, he needs time to get in good shape, “said Daniel Cormier.

After Khamzat Chimaev was knocked out of the March 13 main event, Colby Covington was asked to enter as a substitute for Borz against Leon Edwards. Chaos turned down the offer and told Submission Radio he was not interested in doing “charity” work for UFC welterweight at No. 3.

UFC finally retained Belal Muhammad as Leon Edwards’ new opponent for his fight back in two years. The first newcomer is after winning at UFC 258 and will have the opportunity to compete in the biggest fight of his career.

Where does this leave Colby Covington?

With Colby Covington rejecting the fight against Leon Edwards, it remains to be seen what plans the UFC will have for the former Intermediate Welterweight Champion.

Gilbert Burns has called out Covington after the loss of Kamaru Usman. However, Colby himself has struggled to fight against his former best friend Jorge Masvidal.
