Daniel Cormier backs Jon Jones ’nemesis for an instant heavyweight title picture

Daniel Cormier may not be Jon Jones’ biggest fan, but he thinks his rival deserves an immediate look at the UFC heavyweight title.

Daniel Cormier, a two-time UFC winner, was recently a guest on MMA’s South China Morning Post Fight post YouTube show. There, DC shared his thoughts on longtime rival Jon Jones who may have an immediate chance at overweight gold.

Speaking to feature guests Nick Atkin and Jhon Hyon Ko, Daniel Cormier said Jones’ achievements have earned him an immediate title title against UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic:

“I think he’s going to fight for a title, and I don’t see anything wrong with that. You know, I think, for all he’s accomplished over his career, if anyone deserves an instant title picture, it’s Jon Jones. “

Jon Jones is without a doubt the greatest lightweight ever to compete in the UFC. Some would even argue that he is the best fighter ever to compete inside the Octagon. Jones has dominated the lightweight division since joining the UFC in 2009. In 2011, he captured the UFC lightweight championship for the first time by winning the Shogun Rua Masters. He went on to defend the title eight times – against a number of major champions and rivals – before the title was removed due to issues outside the octagon.

In 2018, he regained the title and continued on his leadership path by scoring three more successful title defenses. In 2020, following his last title defense against Dominick Reyes, Jones announced he would leave the UFC lightweight championship to follow a heavyweight run. Since then Jones has started to give up and seems to have added 15 pounds of muscle.
