Palace have long been interested in Mateta as they hope it will put an end to that lack of goals.

Crystal Palace have been struggling for goals this season with Christian Benteke scoring just three league goals and Jordan Ayew managing just one.

Michy Batshuayi has failed to turn in front of goal – having not yet found the net since being re-signed on loan from Chelsea.

The club are hoping Mateta will sign in support of Roy Hodgson ‘s attack – after scoring a total of 10 goals this season, including seven in the Bundesliga.
