‘I wasn’t ready for attention’: Vicky Entwistle at Coronation Street admits she gave up the soap after struggling to deal with the reputation of playing Janice Battersby
Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle has admitted she gave up the soap after struggling with the reputation that came from playing Janice Battersby.
The actress, who left the soap in 2011, admitted she was not ‘ready’ for the attention she received from playing the role and was left shaken by a horrific experience with someone -continued.
Vicky told the Mirror: ‘I wasn’t ready for the spotlight. It was like being dropped into the sea when you really can’t swim. By the time I left, I wanted to get some rest. ‘

She said: ‘It was a fantastic job in so many ways but by the end, it was hard to know where Janice ended up and I started.
‘She was so angry, he got physically tired to play it – sometimes shouting and screaming at people.’
Vicky began to worry that she could no longer tell where her iconic character ended up and started after she started accepting some of Janice ‘s high – spirited gestures.

One night, she remembered, a group of people picked her up in Manchester and led her into a bar.
So the ‘tired’ actress made the sad decision 10 years ago to turn her back on Corrie Street for a quieter life with set designer Andy Chapman.
