Here are the latest developments in coronavirus pandemic in the Greater Toronto area for Sunday.
Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine retention system for launch Monday
Ontario has released information about their COVID-19 registration system which is due to go live Monday morning.
The province says residents aged 80 and over, or those who work on their behalf, will be able to post their photos starting at 8am.
The government has set up a website and phone line to help eligible residents get their vaccination positions.

Ford says Ontario could manage 150K views per day
Prime Minister Doug Ford says Ontario has the potential to deliver far more COVID-19 vaccines than the province receives on average each day but says there is not enough supply.
“We are ready to ramp up to 150,000 vaccines a day. We need more [vaccines], ”Ford said.
“We have the potential to make 4.8 million in a month and we have 1.4 million coming in through March … I know the federal government is trying. They are doing their best. I’m just saying we don’t have enough vaccines, as simple as that. ”

More calls for vaccination of front workers in factories, distribution centers
Demands are growing for frontline workers in factories and distribution centers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Ontario as supply increases.

This comes after Amazon ordered public health on Friday to close a facility in Brampton, after 240 progressive cases were reported a few weeks ago.

Status of cases in the GTA
Ontario reported a total of 1,747 new coronavirus cases Sunday.
Of those:
- There were 545 in Toronto
- There were 352 in the Peel district
- There were 163 in the York area
- There were 55 of them in the Durham Region
- There were 38 of them in Halton Province
Sunday case report affected by ‘data capture process’
Ontario reported 1,747 cases of the novel coronavirus Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 318,106.
It marks the biggest jump in cases since Feb. 1, when 1,969 were reported. However, regional officials noted that the “case record is higher than expected as a result of the data capture process.”
Officials did not say exactly how many of the 1,747 cases were affected by the data cleansing, but at a news conference this morning Health Minister Christine Elliott said there could be “hundreds.”
Fifteen more deaths were also reported on Sunday, bringing the department’s death toll to 7,153.

Nearly 42K more vaccine doses have been administered in Ontario
As of 8pm on Saturday, 1,158,355 COVID-19 vaccine doses were administered in Ontario, marking an increase of 41,859 over 24 hours. It is a decrease from the highest reported 53,586 doses administered over the previous 24-hour period.
To date, it is estimated that 285,615 people in the province are fully vaccinated.
