Darrell Bevell has taken over as the Lions’ interim head coach after Matt Patricia was fired on 28 November.

The Detroit Lions were up and running almost Wednesday morning after several coaches were spotted having close ties to the team’s staff who were positive for COVID-19.

The team said there were no new positive results Wednesday morning, a day after the group conducted two positive tests.

The Lions said the coaches will stay “away from the team’s facility until further notice.” Although the team did not identify the coaches, ESPN has reportedly worked on the defensive side of the ball, with interim head coach Darrell Bevell also considered a close link.

Detroit (5-9) plan to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5) on Saturday afternoon, with the team still determining who can coach the game if Bevell is unavailable.

The Lions have been short of the coaches since Matt Patricia was fired on November 28th. Bevell was inspired by an offensive coordinator, and on Monday the team fired Brayden Coombs special teams coordinator.

The Lions said the team plans to hold an outdoor exercise later Wednesday.
