The World Health Organization this evening (Tuesday) confirmed the identification of another corona mutation in Japan, which was discovered among tourists from Brazil. According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, this is a different mutation from the British and South African ones. Also, in Japan they are now studying the mutation and trying to understand how dangerous it is.
The new mutation has been identified among four infected people, and according to tests, the new version shares some common mutation that is also found among the British and South African variants, Takaji Wakita, head of the National Infectious Diseases Institute, told a Japanese media briefing. Wakita explained that they are researching the characteristics of the new mutation, such as the effectiveness of vaccines against it and how severe its symptoms may be.
