Corona: The coefficient of infection continues to rise, are we on the way to a fourth closure?

Are we approaching another wave of illness that will force us to stop the opening of the economy and perhaps even force a fourth closure? A security report published this morning (Friday) shows that the coefficient of infection continues to rise and approach 1, and today it is set at 0.97. The security forces have called on the government to reconsider the latest opening measures, in light of the alarming rise in morbidity.

Along with the increase in the coefficient of infection, the rate of positive tests continues to decline, and yesterday it reached 5.6%. 3,782 people were diagnosed positive for the virus in the last day, out of a total of 73,752 tests.

Thirty patients have died from corona in the last day, the number of serious patients has risen to 738 and the number of respirators is 238. All this is happening despite the fact that more than 90% of those aged 60 and over in Israel have been vaccinated at least with the first vaccine.

Health Minister Yuli Edelstein said this morning: “We open Purim morning with a joyous holiday mixed with Corona concern. Two young Corona patients aged 24 and 26 died yesterday. Most of the public understands and is aware. “The corona. You will give up the tishim this time. The joy of the holiday must not come at the expense of the public. Instead of rejoicing with the other, let us think of the other. (So far 4,650,000 people have been vaccinated, of whom 3,275,000 also received a second dose).”

The major concern in the health system is that in light of a significant number of violations of the guidelines and closure during the Purim holiday, the coefficient of infection is expected to rise even more in the near future. Yesterday, Prof. Ran Blitzer said that “if we reach a situation where the coefficient of infection again exceeds 1, we will have to make renewed decisions regarding the opening of the economy.”
