Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company has “a lot more to do,” but he’s excited about the acquisition of the first Apple Silicon M1 Macs.
Speaking through the seasonally licensed employment call, Cook answered analyst questions about M1 Macs, the first of Apple ‘s computers powered by an internally designed silicon. Stressing again that he sees this as early days in the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, he said Apple is excited about progress so far.
“We are halfway through the transition, and we have a lot more to do,” he said. “We are in the early days of a two-year transition, but we are excited about what we have seen so far. . ”
“If you look at the switcher [from PC to Mac], “he continued,” if you look at the new-to-Mac, and new-to-iPad, those worldwide numbers are about half the purchases coming from people who new. So the instal base is still expanding with new customers. ”
“That’s true of both iPad and Mac [but] if you look at the Mac, M1 I think it gives us a new growth path that we didn’t have before, “he continued.” Certainly if Q1 is a good substitute, there is a lot of joy about M1-based Macs. ”
Apple launched its first M1-powered Macs last year with the MacBook Air, a 13-inch MacBook Pro and a Mac mini. Feedback from users has been relatively optimistic, with many raising the speed and efficiency of new computers compared to both Macs and Windows boxes.
The company is reportedly releasing a pair of redesigned, high-end MacBook Pro models with M1 chips in the third quarter, while iMac and Mac Pro could benefit from Apple Silicon more later this year.
