The future of Barcelona is full of fog. After another season that seems very disappointing in the league and an expected and painful relegation already in the eighth stage of the Champions League final, the Catalan club needs to rethink. Due to this, the Blaugrana want to establish the skeleton that will lead the club in the coming years.

There are six key players on which Barça are building according to ‘Marca’. Those six are about to end a contract or next year they will end it, and the club (and especially the new management that will arrive) will try to renew the stars’ contracts.

Will Barcelona continue galloping upwards

The question of the questions – the future of Leo Messi

Barça’s task and the decision to shape the club’s face not only in the 2021/22 season, but also its future. The Argentine star ends his contract in less than four months. In Spain there is talk that the salary is not the main issue that will lead to the flea staying, when he wants to see the signings blown up, a coach he believes in and a serious environment in which he will be surrounded that can help the club return and win titles.

Anso Patti

After Messi, the young talent comes second in order of importance. The Spaniard ends his contract in 2022 and although the club claims he can automatically extend his contract for another two years, the striker environment replies that this clause is illegal and Mendes, his representative for months, will press to obtain a record contract which could lead the player to another team.

Ronald Araujo

Third on the list is the young star. The Uruguayan is ending a contract in 2023 and the terms that tested his promotion to the first team when he signed in August 2018 are currently entering. The same sections are clearly obsolete in light of the player’s performance. Two months ago, before Bartomeu’s resignation, there was already talk of a renewal until 2026. Now the player is on hold and waiting for the new president. There is a lot of interest around him, although his release clause stands at 200 million euros.

Osman Dembele

Number 4 on the list is the talented winger. The story with Dembele is different from any we have mentioned so far. The winger has already been in Catalonia for 4 seasons and his contract expires in 2022. Due to that, a decision has to be made whether to continue with him or release him to another team and next summer he will be able to leave for free. He was signed for a high sum of 135 million euros and failed to justify the high amount paid for him. His talent is undeniable, but will he ever erupt at the age of 24? This is the line of thought that will guide the heads of the club.

Pedri

Like Anso and Areujo, Federry is also marked as one of the skeletons who should lead Barcelona in the next decade. The young player has ignited the imagination since he came up with a number of impressive performances and the team has to decide whether to believe in him, put him on loan or release him. Pedri has a contract until the end of 2022 that can be extended until 2024, but his terms do not fit his new status and he is expected to demand new terms.

Sergei Roberto

One of the last players still reminiscent of the great Barcelona of a few years ago. At 29, the excellent midfielder is set to end his contract in 2022 and already this summer there are rumors linking his departure from the club. Sergi’s current season is marked by a lot of injuries and he is currently in a key situation for the continuation of his career – whether to go or stay.
