As its city rival takes over the Premier League summit, Manchester United are building the future: Mason Greenwood, the club’s academy product, has extended his contract and will remain at Old Trafford until 2025 with an option to continue the contract.
The 19-year-old Greenwood has already managed to become United’s youngest goal scorer in a European competition and recorded 82 appearances in the senior team uniform. “When you join a club at the age of seven, you only dream of playing for the senior team,” Greenwood, who scored 21 goals in the United uniform, said at the signing. “I worked so hard to get to that level and the last two years have been amazing. There are so many things I want to achieve and I know this is the perfect environment to play my football.”
“I have support from the management and the coaching staff, and there are so many great players here to learn from,” Greenwood continued. “I know I am evolving every day, and I am committed to working hard every week to help the team achieve success. I want to give back to the club for the support it has given me over the years, to show everyone exactly what I am capable of.”
Ola Gunnar Solskjaer, Greenwood’s coach, added: “He is a fantastic talent and a great example of the type of player our academy produces. He has progressed a lot this season and has shown maturity, he has developed into one of the best youngsters in the country. “He has the potential and we are trying to do that. It will be important for us in the years to come.”
