Scottish Conservatives have slammed Nicola Sturgeon over the SNP’s decision to vote against Boris Johnson’s Brexit trade deal as it said it wanted an unconditional split to promote its independence bid .

The SNP has said it will oppose the Prime Minister’s deal with the EU when it is struck by Parliament tomorrow, arguing it will be a ‘catastrophe for Scotland’.

But that decision has sparked Conservative anger north of the border, with Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross showing that Ms Sturgeon has long warned of the dangers of leaving the EU without a trade agreement instead.

Douglas Ross, leader of the Scottish Conservatives, said Ms Sturgeon wanted any separation from the EU to advance her case for independence.

Douglas Ross, leader of the Scottish Conservatives, said Ms Sturgeon wanted any separation from the EU to advance her case for independence.

Mr Ross, the Conservative MP for Moray, added: ‘So much spinning from the Nats cannot hide that after months of warning against the No Deal result, which is exactly what the SNP will vote on Wednesday. ‘

He said: ‘It is never about what is better for Scotland. It is always about separating Scotland. ‘

Earlier this month Ms Sturgeon told CNN she believed the chances of Mr Johnson striking a contract with Brussels were ‘almost slim’.

However, she said she was ‘hopeful’ that a contract would be made ‘as no contract would be disastrous’.

The SNP announced on Sunday that its MPs will vote against Mr Johnson’s trade deal.

They have argued that independence is now the only way to ‘protect Scotland’s interests and a place in Europe’.

Ian Blackford, the Westminster leader of the SNP, said in a statement: ‘Boris Johnson’s real Conservative Brexit is a relentless act of economic vandalism and stupidity, which will cause lasting damage to the economy and make the UK much worse at the worst possible time. – in times of economic and economic downturn.

‘Scotland has been completely ignored by Westminster through the Brexit process and we are being forced to pay a terrible price.

‘An independent country is clearly the only way to protect Scotland’s interests, and reap the full benefits of EU membership. ‘

The PM’s trade deal is expected to pass through the House of Commons thanks to a majority of Mr Johnson’s 80-seat Conservatives and that Sir Keir Starmer has told Labor MPs they must vote for him.

Ms Sturgeon has said she wants to hold a re-run of the 2014 Scottish independence referendum after next year’s Holyrood elections.

But Mr Johnson is refusing to grant permission to hold another border count.

The Prime Minister has said he believes the 2014 vote solved the issue for a generation.
