On Wednesday, the Orlando Magic lifted a 113-107 victory over the Miami Heat to open the regular season. Evan Fournier scored 25 points at team level to lead the Magic while Aaron Gordon scooped in 20 points and seven rebounds over Eastern Conference defending champions.
The game also marked the official debut for Magic rookies Cole Anthony and Chuma Okeke. Anthony scored six points, a senior six assists and two assists in 19 minutes off the bench while Okeke had three points, five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes.
Perhaps the biggest thing of the competition in the fourth quarter happened on a quick position with Anthony and Gordon. Anthony picked up a pass from the heat, and immediately went to the other end of the floor and hit Gordon on the alley-oop pass.
Orlando beat Miami by 10 points in the final period to pull off the win. The Magic brought the heat into 22 turns, resulting in 24 points, and also won the second chance points and a battle of fastbreak points throughout the evening.
The Magic secured an impressive win Wednesday but the result was only one game in a long season and the team subsequently stressed that they cannot go too high after the first win of the year.
Orlando returns to action Saturday against the Washington Wizards.
