Coronation Street will welcome a new character to the geese next month when Ed Bailey ‘s Ronnie flash arrives at Weatherfield.

Actress Vinta Morgan joins the team as Ronnie enters the Street in his sports car, but his reasons for moving to Salford remain a mystery.

The introduction of Ronnie will be part of an impressive new story for the Baileys that will be in mid-2021, after the soap won praise for tackling the topic of racism last year.

In the upcoming scenes, Ronnie is thrilled to be back with his brother Ed (played by Trevor Michael Georges.) And his nephew Michael (Ryan Russell), and the three go to the Rovers for a drink.

But as they recall past times, it is clear that Aggie (Lorna Laidlaw) is worried for her husband, and later tells Grace that she is afraid that Ronnie Ed might get lost.

Her worries are exacerbated when Ronnie reveals that he intends to move to the area from London, but does not reveal the reason behind his move, and along with Michael ‘s baby news this is just adding to Aggie’s weight.

At 51, Ronnie is one man missing his family, but he has done well with some lucky investments, and will no doubt be a hit with the ladies on the Street thanks to his charming techniques.

Producer John MacLeod says: ‘Ronnie Bailey is a great injection of chaos, energy and humor. It is Jack the Lad who overcomes the normal comfortable life on his head and puts many cats among many pigeons, up and down the street, which is very difficult for him. Ed.

‘Ronnie comes in with a hand grenade with the pin out already and we all wonder when he’s about to drop it and how you can predict a show like ours he releases it when it does the most damage. This is an exciting time in Bailey’s home. ‘

Actress Vinta Ronnie will play, with previous credits included Unforgettable, Ted Lasso and Grace Under Pressure.

It comes after Corrie’s bosses confirmed that the Bailey family will be at the center of the day in a new dark story dealing with the effects of racism.

Producer John told Digital Spy: ‘We are slowly investigating systematic racism. ‘

‘Of course, we visited that topic with oral racism earlier in 2020, but we will now play out a further study of systemic racism, which is in a more insidious and almost subliminal.

‘Instead of shouting names, it’s more than what our actors have told us they’ve seen in their daily lives – unconscious bias and systematic racism.’

The first sightings of Ronnie Bailey’s Corrie will air on Friday 19 February.
