The trophy period across Europe has also reached England, with the EFL factory – the League Cup – where they reached the quarter-final stage. Manchester City qualified for the semi-finals tonight (Tuesday) with an impressive 1: 4 over Arsenal, with the crisis continuing to worsen after the recent results in the Premier League. Brentford also surprised Newcastle with 0-1 and ousted them as well.

Arsenal – Manchester City 4: 1
The match took place at the Emirates Stadium in London, where the Gunners have not won in a local setting since early October (achieved victories in the Europa League). As far as Pep Guardiola’s side are concerned, this is a result that could give a slightly more positive boost after the small win over Southampton in the league (which came after two draws).

The first half was more even, with Gabriel Jesus giving the Blues the lead as early as the third minute, but Alexander Lacassette equalized (31). The visitors then took matters into their own hands with goals from Riyad Mahraz (54), Phil Fuden (59) and Americ Laporte (73, from Foden’s cooking) thus securing the ticket to the semi-finals.

In the extra game held earlier today, Brentford of the Second Division defeated Newcastle 0-1 from a goal by Joshua de Silva.
