City clinic in the capital

Manchester City put the sword at Stamford Bridge courtesy of a devastating first-half display in which Ilkay Gündogan, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne were all on the front page.

Pep Guardiola’s men were ahead within 20 minutes when Gündogan turned away from Thiago Silva and dashed on a perfect driver for an inch into the bottom corner from just inside the box.

And just three minutes later Foden doubled our advantage with a near-post clinical finish from De Bruyne’s cut, finding a place garden to go home as the perfect Belgian inch center.

A stunning 45-yard opening from City followed just after half an hour when Raheem Sterling hit the post after a quick counter, but the ball fell at De Bruyne’s feet to add a third.

Things could have improved just before the time when Rodrigo finally got off to a De Bruyne free-kick, but the Spaniard’s header sent off an excellent rebound from Chelsea stopping Edouard Mendy.

With the game in the dying rooms, Chelsea grabbed comfort at stoppage time when Callum Hudson-Odoi slipped in at the back post to send a low cross away from Kai Havertz.

But the damage has already been done as we march on to third victory after the Premier League, and make a real statement on our title contenders.
