Christmas tree lost on Norwegian field to keep semisub rig offline for weeks

Equipment is expected to continue on a Seadrill-connected string working for Wintershall Dea offshore in Norway that produced production equipment to the seabed to keep the unit offline for weeks.

Seadrill offshoot Northern Offshore said in a statement to the Oslo Stock Exchange on Friday that the semi-submersible West Mira had suffered an “operational incident” on March 19 while working on the Nova field for the German operator.

“During the process of reducing production equipment to the well location in the Nova area, the rig failed to fail in equipment and as a result equipment equipment went down to the seabed,” Northern Offshore said.

Wintershall Dea had earlier identified the underwater device as a baptismal font.

“No one was injured in the incident and the well was secured with three obstacles in place.”

The rig player said manager Seadrill Europe Management and Wintersall Dea were “investigating the incident and have agreed a plan to secure the production equipment”.

“Based on current plans to inspect the affected equipment and perform well between maintenance, the company is confident that the West Mira will return to work by mid-April, subject to weather and other conditions that may arise.

“Both the manager and the client will be in close contact with the [Norwegian] Petroleum Safety Authority. “

In an earlier statement, Wintershall Dea said: “An investigation has been launched into the incident, which is considered serious.”

“As she lowered a baptismal font from West Mira, the winch wire fell when the tree was five meters below the sea surface. The baptismal tree sank to the seabed 368 meters below the water level.

“Eight people were working in the rig area where the incident occurred at a safe distance from moving equipment.”

The German player said a remote vehicle was sent to the seabed to get to the position.

“The ROV inspection did not reveal the risk of liquids or hydrocarbons being released and the baptismal font is localized on the template.

“The well is controlled and secured by three obstacles.”

Last May, Wintershall Dea he got permission from the Petroleum Safety Authority to use the West Mira for production and finishing drilling work at the Nova field, with an estimated 388 days.

A 2019 seventh-generation solid environment rig was built to drill six wells under a strong $ 106 million contract, with options for an additional 10 wells.

This work was expected to begin in March 2020, although the operator had the option of carrying this forward to the third quarter of last year which did not appear to be going out.

Wintershall Dea holds a 45% operating stake in 418 production license hosting Nova, with Spirit Energy partners at 20%, Edison at 15%, and Capricorn Solveig Gas unit and One-Dyas at 10 % apiece.

Lundin in a small oil spill

Elsewhere off the coast of Norway, the NPD revealed on Friday that Lundin Energy is independent of Sweden on what the NPD stands for as a “small oil spill” at a 16 / 4-13 S well on a production permit. 359 in the North Sea.

The well was drilled about 15 kilometers south of the Edvard Grieg field in the middle of the North Sea and 190 kilometers west of Stavanger.

“The goal was to test the petroleum well in reservoir rocks from the Triassic to the Paleozoic Era,” the NPD said.

“The 10 meter oil column well in conglomerate sandstone occurred in these rocks, approximately seven meters of them with moderate to poor reservoir quality.

“The oil / water communication occurred 1950 meters below sea level.

“The entire reservoir, including the water zone, is made up of conglomeratic sandstone and is approximately 380 meters thick.

“Initial estimates increase the volume of recoverable oil by between 0.5 and 1.4 million cubic meters [between 3.14 million and 8.81 million barrels of oil equivalent].

“The licensees will evaluate the findings regarding a possible connection in the Solveig area.”
