Chad Wheeler is no longer a Seattle Seahawk
The Seattle Seahawks have released offensive lineman Chad Wheeler after he was arrested last weekend in a domestic violence investigation.
Wheeler was eliminated by the Seahawks Wednesday, according to NFL official affairs.
The 27-year-old was arrested by police in the Seattle suburb of Kent, Washington, and was taken into King County Jail early Saturday for a domestic violence investigation.
He had his first trial Monday and was released from prison Tuesday after posting a $ 400,000 bond.
“The Seahawks are saddened by the details that emerge against Chad Wheeler and strongly condemn this act of domestic violence,” a team statement said.
“Our thoughts and support are with the victim. Chad is a free agent and not with the team anymore.”
Wheeler joined the Seahawks in 2019 and has appeared in five games this season. His contract with the team was set to expire with the start of the new league year in March.
The King County Prosecutor’s Office is expected to make a decision on charges in Wheeler’s case Wednesday.
Officers went to a residence in Kent Friday night after the victim and family members called 911 and reported that the victim locked himself in a bathroom after being assaulted, according to a file the case.
Officers heard the arrival of a screaming woman, pushed the entrance to the apartment and smashed down the door to the locked bathroom, documents said. Police found Wheeler with the woman, who was crying with her face covered in blood and her arm hanging limply beside her, court records say.
Officers finally held off Wheeler, who was uncooperative and shouted, ‘Sorry!’ And ’tis not the case for women! ‘according to court documents.
At a hospital, the woman told investigators that Wheeler asked her to stand up and make a bow at him and when she refused, he threw her on the bed, choked her and tried to suffocate her, documents court says.
She began to lose consciousness and tried to fight back, but Wheeler grabbed her arm and spun it, the court file says. She then lost consciousness for an unknown time.
When she regained consciousness, the woman saw Wheeler beside the bed, and said, ‘Wow, are you alive?’ She then ran into the bathroom, where she called her family and 911, according to the case file.
Wheeler lifted the lock to the bathroom and went inside, then began to apologize. Officers reached the scene and arrested Wheeler.
