Centrica sees modified EPS ahead of forecasts

Centrica PLC said Thursday it expects to beat the consensus adjusted earnings per forecast for 2020 after a bullish half.

The owner of British Gas said the coronavirus continued to hurt the industry, but the impact in the second half was less than the first. UK industry electricity demand fell by 15% in the second half compared to a 30% fall in the second quarter of the year.

He said while residential boiler outlets were down 15% in the second half compared to the same period in 2019, this was better than a 40% drop in the first half.

Centrica said it is cautious for 2021, with covid-19 expected to return to tighter restrictions to limit industrial energy demand and limit services.

Earnings per equity is 4.8 pence – a metric that eliminates certain and other one-time items – based on auditors ’forecasts 16. EPS was revised in 2019 at 7.3 pence.
