Carlos Sainz makes Ferrari debut as Scuderia starts 2021 with Fiorano test

Ferrari’s 2021 is on track after Charles Leclerc returns to action in their 2018 car on Tuesday, as part of Fiorano’s team weekly program that will see Carlos Sainz make his debut in red on Wednesday .

Sainz has joined Ferrari for 2021 from McLaren as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel, who won four times in the world and gets the first run-out for the most famous F1 team at the World Cup. their test route, even in a three-year-old car.

With the Spaniard looking at him in his new team colors on Tuesday, Leclerc completed more than 100 laps in the SF71-H with Ferrari saying he worked on “starting a practice and work aimed at his ‘new tree and pre-season test’.

Leclerc, who had been in Dubai and was contracted for a coronavirus earlier this month, said: “It was great to get back in the car today, it was really great!

“Seeing my mechanics again, putting on the race suit, doing my warm-up routine, putting on my helmet and finally jumping in the car and pushing the start button… yes Ferrari engine sound is always magical.

“The day was just perfect and we got through the work we were planning to do. I really enjoyed it! Now I give it to Carlos and I wish him all the best for his tomorrow. “

With F1’s short three-day pre-season test program for the new 2021 cars not taking place until mid-March, Ferrari is using Fioronao this week to get drivers from all over the world. their programs back soon after the winter break.

Academy drivers Robert Shwartzman and Marcus Armstrong as well as Giuliano Alesi, the 22-year-old son of a Ferrari Jean driver who is leaving the program to race in Asia, each driving and SF71-H Monday.

Sainz will take over Wednesday and Thursday mornings before Mick Schumacher, another young Ferrari player who races for Haas in F1 this year, takes over Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
