Can 2.0L Supra prove its worth against 3.0L Supras in a wet drag race?

Towing races are usually arranged to see which of the fastest competing cars in a fourth-mile, straight-line sprint. In addition to an acceleration test, it is also a traction and power-to-weight ratio test, as well as some assessment of the drivers’ skills in launching and moving gear.

But this weekend’s drag race is a lot different. The four-cylinder Toyota Supra is out to prove it deserves to carry the badge, and what better way to do that than to compete against the 3.0L Supra – both old and new .

The race was founded by, of course Carwow, with Mat Watson testing the half-banger Supra half-banger. The other contenders were the Toyota Supra powered by a straight six-BMW engine, and the other was the MK4 Supra with the legendary, fully-tunable 2JZ engine under its hood.

Another feature to consider here, however, besides the power and weight differences, is the position of the road. As the race was done in the UK, the tarmac was wet so you would expect some strain from those rear sports cars at the starting line.

As expected, all the cars had a hard time launching so it took three tests before they got one right with everyone throwing happily at the signal. The results shouldn’t surprise you, though, so I don’t want to add a bit of mystery here.

Getting the most power from the cap, the new 3.0-liter Supra won the straight line race. But what do you think came between the MK4 and the 2.0-liter Supra in second place? After watching the video above, do you think the four-cylinder Supra still deserves its badge? You can drop your thoughts in the comments section below.
