The Bulgarian team defeated Austria 0: 3 tonight (Saturday) and advanced to the European Championship. Following this, the Austrian team will wait for the result of the game between Israel and Bulgaria to be held tomorrow, to know whether it or the blue and whites will be in second place at home.
Bulgaria played loosely in the opening, while Sokolov put on a great game, easily winning the first set 15:25. In the second set the Austrians woke up as a result of a good play by Berger near the net, but the Bulgarians led throughout the set and won at the end 18:25. The Austrians opened the third set better than the previous two sets and climbed to a 9:12 advantage, but the Bulgarians’ timeout led to a reversal and victory in the 22:25 set.
Tsvetan Sokolov, star of the Bulgarian national team, said at the end: “I am very pleased with our game today, our team was made up of young players. I am very happy for the team and the good work we did in the tournament. The game today was my best game in the tournament, this team has great potential.”
