David Boreanaz had been publicly silent in the days since a Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel costar Charisma Carpenter came forward with allegations of abuse by series creator Joss Whedon, but – perhaps in response to fan criticism for not making an earlier statement – Boreanaz made his first social media statement on the issue Sunday. “I am here to listen and support you. Pride of your strength, ” Boreanaz tweeted. Carpenters answered and he made it clear that Boreanaz had been supporting her privately since news of her claims broke on 10 February: “I know you are there for me, David. I appreciate everything you did to show that support privately as well. Especially from Wednesday. -Thank you so much”

Boreanaz’s tweet was a response Carpenter’s original post from last week: “For almost two decades, I have kept my tongue out and even made excuses for special events that have haunted me to this day,” she wrote. “Joss Whedon used his power several times while working together on the sets Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. While he witnessed his humorous misconduct, it only strengthened my performance anxiety, influenced me, and attacked me from my peers. The traumatic events triggered a bad physical condition that I still suffer from. It is with a heavy, heavy heart that I say that I have dealt with them alone and, at times, destructively. ”

Carpenter, from whom the character Cordelia was killed Angel in a controversial view of childbirth, also opened up about Whedon ‘s targeted abuse when the actor became pregnant:

“Joss turned down a number of calls from my representatives making it impossible to contact him to let him know I was pregnant. Finally, once Joss became acquainted with the situation, he asked to meet with me. In that closed door meeting, he asked me if I was ‘going to keep it’ and armed my wives and my religion against me. He went on to attack my character, mock my religious beliefs, make me ruin the show, and then shoot me unnoticed next season once again. And that I was born. ”

Carpenter was moved to speak out in an effort to stand up in support Justice League actor Ray Fisher, who called out Whedon, the film’s director, for his “full, abusive, unprofessional and completely inappropriate” behavior on set. (He also said Whedon was enabled by reps Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Berg said Variety Fisher’s allegations were “substantially incorrect.”

Now Carpenter is getting support as well. As well as Boreanaz, Amber Benson, played by Tara Buffy, showing its support for Carpenter on Twitter, says the show set “It was a toxic environment and it starts at the top.”

Buffy Sarah Michelle Gellar released a statement on Instagram who says, “While I’m proud that my name is associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to ever be associated with the name Joss Whedon. I’m more focused on raising my family and living with a pandemic right now, so I won’t be making any further statements at this time. But I stand by all those who survived abuse and I am proud of them for speaking out. Gellar’s statement was reinstated by Michelle Trachtenberg, who came after him she added more information to her statement: “The last one. Comment on this. There were. There was a rule. Saying. It is not allowed again in a room alone. ”
