England archers came to the rescue in the third T20I against New Zealand to cover the white attire of the guests.
SCORECARD
Held until 128/9 after being sent off to bat, England kicked back with the ball to put New Zealand out for 96.
New Zealand went into the chase as they preferred but got out to the worst starter when Katherine Brunt hit twice in first place for England. Former sailor Sophie Devine caught in front of him for a duck on the second ball of the innards, and then did the same to Hayley Jensen (0) at the end of the day. Brunt finished with 2/19 figures to be named Player of the Match.
Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr put the White Ferns back on track from there but the chase fell apart when Sarah Glenn broke the 36-run partnership in the eighth over.
Glenn had stopped Satterthwaite for 25, and that was the first of seven wikis that fell in place of six petals. Kerr (18) fell in the same way as Sophie Ecclestone (2/19) in ninth place, while Maddy Villiers got Katey Martin (3) in the next.
Freya Davies (1/7) entered the action to bowl Brooke Halliday (7) in the 11th, before Villiers (3/10) picked up two more in the 12th, citing Kate Ebrahim (0) and Leigh Kasperek (0). When Ecclestone beat Jess Kerr (3) in the 13th over, New Zealand had dropped from 37/2 to 63/9.
Maddy Green (20) and Rosemary Mari (13 *) managed to keep New Zealand in the chase a little longer, putting forward 33 runs for the 10th wicket before Green fell to Nat Sciver in 18th place.
Earlier, England had been left frustrated by the fact that six of their batters were sent out in single numbers.
Danni Wyatt (3) was the first striker out, surprisingly caught by Amelia in the third over Mair’s bowling (1/17), taking it behind her head running back. She grabbed another big catch to remove Tammy Beaumont (14) in the sixth, giving Devine the first of three wikis.
Things looked bleak when Sciver (9) ran out in seventh place, but England recovered as a result of a 36-run stand between Amy Jones and Sophia Dunkley.
However, when Jones was sacked, captured and bowled for 15 by Devine (3/30), another minor setback came when Dunkley (26) and Brunt (3) both fell to Amelia (1/30). / 28) in the 14th over, leaving England in trouble at 84/6.
31 without loss from Fran Wilson took them over 100 from there and eventually to a winning total.
