Mike Tyson remembers seeing “white lights” after a punch from Frank Bruno almost knocked him out during their two heavy classical fights.

His new documentary, Bruno v Tyson, available on Sky Documentaries and NOW TV from Friday night, February 26, which explores the intriguing relationship between two boxing images from both sides of the Atlantic.

They met in two world heavyweight title fights, in 1989 and 1996, with Tyson winning both through stoppage time.

But the respect between them remains intact to this day – the documentary Bruno v Tyson featuring an interesting reunion where they share memories and lessons from the past.

Their first fight was postponed five times and Tyson now admits that affected Bruno: “I was hoping he did.

“I went out in the first round to get rid of him, trying to catch him with hard blows. He was taking them.

“He came back with a look or two. He was fighting well. In fact, he stopped me with a good shot in the first round.

“It was like electricity. I saw white lights.

“You do not know whether you are down or not.

“He was at his best, at the time. It was a hard fight for me.”

Bruno was famous for four chances to finally capture a world title – his second attempt was ruined by Tyson.

When Bruno eventually became a WBC hero by defeating Oliver McCall, his first defense was a loss in a replay with Tyson. This was Bruno’s last fight.

Tyson was the youngest ever overweight champion and had already won eight fights for the world title before the first battle with Bruno.

Their connection had begun, long before their professional dreams, at Tyson’s gym in New York.

Bruno remembers the documentary: “I remember when you were 15 in Catskill and we exploded together. I saw you grow up.

“When [Tyson’s legendary trainer Cus D’Amato] talking like a pastor, as well as a shameless man. “

“This is our trip that we have to deal with.”

Bruno said: “I’m glad I met him because it put pressure on me in my mind.”
