British UFC star Tom Aspinall warns Jon Jones of overweight movement as ‘Bones’ prepares for Stipe Miocic vs Francis Ngannou II winner

Tom Aspinall is waiting to see how Jon Jones carries the extra weight at heavyweight before judging the pound for a pound.

‘Bones’ dropped its lightweight title last summer to pursue a second-world title in the company’s blue ribbon division.

A quick review on social media gives fans an insight into the heavy lifting and stressful work that the 33-year-old undertakes before making his debut as a heavyweight.

Despite standing comfortably at 6ft 4ins, Jones and his team at Jackson Wink MMA are more aware of the dangers involved such as Francis Ngannou and Stipe Miocic because of their far more important frames.

With Dana White promising to get Jones shot at the winner of the UFC 260 replay, the youngest champion in UFC history knows he needs to build sensibly before being beaten by either behemoth .

But Aspinall, who returns to action this weekend against former champion Andrei Arlovski, was quick to offer a word of warning to the latest entrant to the shark tank that is the UFC heavyweight division.

He told talkSPORT.com: “He’s cleared the lightweight heavyweight division not, so maybe he’s looking for more challenges?

“I’m interested to see what it looks like with all the extra pressure as a lot of these light bulbs think they can come out and just think ‘o the These people are slow and less skilled ‘.

“But when you carry that extra weight it makes a big difference too, so I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like on a heavy weight. I would be very interested in that. “

The 27-year-old from Atherton got off to a strong start on his UFC career, earning consecutive first-round finishes to earn a shot for himself at vice-champion Arlovski.

While the former force may not be the only incredible force he once had when he defeated Tim Sylvia back in 2005, Belarus remains a legitimate name in the overweight region.

Both Miocic and Ngannou had to get through the 42-year-old to break into the region’s high echelons, with Aspinall confident in his ability and progress so far as he prepares to face on a man with nearly five times as many professional fights himself.

“I think it went as planned, to be honest,” he continued. “I think it’s perfect because I’ve done two short fights and nobody has seen anything close to what I can do yet so I’m still a secret to everyone.

“So that’s nice and the quicker fights I can have, the better it really is because that means it will take even longer for those boys to start taking me out.

“I have little experience for most fighters in general because I hadn’t had much time in the cage at all.

“But I’ve been doing sparring art and weapons as a high level for a long time, but sparring and fighting are different.

“That’s why I say I’m trying to take my time and do it slowly instead of tearing through this thing so I’m just going to build my experience when it really comes out. ”
