Bong Joon-Ho consolidates 2 sequels to his Oscar-winning film, Parasite

It’s just over a year since Korean director Bong Joon-ho set a new standard for what it means to make a compelling film with his award-winning film Parasite. After winning Best Picture at last year’s Academy Awards, fans of the director’s slow cinema have been eagerly awaiting a new project – and it’s no surprise that Bong plans to deliver.

“It feels like I’m splitting my brain in the left and right halves writing these two scripts. But I finished one last week, ”Bong explained on a program of Director’s Cut podcast earlier this month, announcing its plans to bring not one, but two series to the internationally acclaimed film.

Little else has been revealed about the plot of the two films so far, however, Bong has confirmed that one film will be written in Korean, and the other written in English.

The award-winning director also said that “the Korean film is set in Seoul and has certain elements of horror and action” but added that “it is difficult to explain the nature of my films.”

The English language project, on the other hand, will be based on “a real event that happened in 2016.” And while Bong insists he will not know for sure where the project will be filmed, he expects it to take place half in the UK and half in the United States.

In addition to the two follow-up films, Bong is also developing English Parasite HBO series with director Adam McKay – expected to use some of the ideas released from the film’s original script.

Although news of one, only two have been confirmed Parasite skins as a reason for fans of Bong films to be excited, it is not yet clear when the films will start filming, without allowing them to be released to the public. The director remains adamant about certain details, but as iD featured in a recent report, the majority of Bong films were released within two years of each other – so there’s a good chance we’ll see at least one of the two films coming implemented as early as 2022.
