BRASILIA, March 18 – Brazil’s most distant President Jair Bolsonaro said yesterday that he was pleased that supporters have been holding protests over antisocial speed, on the same day the country registered more than 90,000 new Covid-19 cases for the first time.

The disease record came one day after Brazil posted a separate record for virus-related deaths, more than 2,800 in one day.

“Logically, I was happy,” Bolsonaro commented on the protests in comments broadcast on social media. “They show that the people are alive … we want our freedom, we want the world to respect our constitution.”

In the last few days, Bolsonaro has named a cardiologist to become the country ‘s fourth health minister since the outbreak began. Replacing an active-duty military general, the change came when experts around the world criticized the spread of the virus in Brazil, and how Bolsonaro was reducing the severity of the disease.
