Amit Isman is the new State Attorney. This is what the new Minister of Justice, the head of Blue and White, MK Bnei Gantz, has decided.
Ganz said tonight: “Tonight I am taking another step for the rule of law, in an effort to make it a significant step towards the stability of the judiciary and the rule of law. The State of Israel must function – the justice system must function and no one will prevent it from functioning. Therefore, until we bring the permanent appointment to the government, I have decided to appoint Adv. Isman as his deputy so that he can begin in office. I emphasized to Isman the importance I see in strengthening the rule of law, promoting the work of the State Attorney’s Office and the independence of its functioning. I have no doubt that he will do his job on the best side as a deputy today, and as a permanent state attorney in the future. “

Since 2010, Isman has served as the District Attorney of the Haifa District, and between the years 2015–2017 he served as Deputy State Attorney for special positions. The appointment was received from State Attorney Shai Nitzan without a tender, which led to criticism.
As part of his role, Isman was involved in the decision-making process in the prime minister’s files, and his views on the matter were accepted by the ombudsman. Isman was also present at a hearing for the prime minister.
Criticism from feminist organizations arose after the search committee selected Isman as a candidate for the position of state attorney. This is due to Issman’s problematic statements in the past towards interns who worked in his office.
