The Tel Aviv District Attorney’s Office filed an indictment today (Friday) for conspiracy to commit a crime, arson together and obstruction of justice against 22-year-old Mordechai David from Bnei Brak. David has been accused of setting fire to a passenger bus during recent disturbances in the city of Bnei Brak.

According to the indictment, on January 24, during demonstrations in Bnei Brak, which included riots, arson and clashes between police and civilians in the city, a bus of the Afikim company was set on fire after the crowd blocked the road, attacked the driver and caused passengers to abandon the bus.

After the bus was left empty on the street, some of the crowd tried to set the bus on fire, but passers-by who passed by extinguished the fire. The defendant set fire to a cardboard surface and placed it burning on the driver’s seat on the bus, while another minor lit the fire with the help of additional cartons, to the passenger seats. As a result of the acts, the bus burned completely, windows in the nearby residential buildings shattered as a result of the heat of the fire, shutters melted, and the occupants of the buildings were forced to evacuate their homes late at night.

After the acts were committed, David met a reporter on a TV show, and told him that he would hide the phone in his house. But he asked the reporter, that in case there were policemen in the place he would take the phone and say that it belonged to him. This is in order to prevent the Israeli police from seizing the phone, which contains videos documenting the riots.
