Bitcoin, ether hit new heights

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Bitcoin hit a new high in Asian trading on Saturday, extending a two-month rally that saw its market capitalization exceed $ 1 trillion in the previous day.

The most popular cryptocurrency in the world rose to $ 56,620, bringing the weekly gain to 18%. It has surpassed more than 92% this year.

The benefits of Bitcoin have been boosted by evidence that it is gaining acceptance among investors and mainstream companies, such as Tesla Inc, Mastercard Inc and BNY Mellon.

Ether, the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization and daily volume, hit $ 2,040.62 higher, for a weekly gain of about 12%.

Ether is the digital currency or token that enables transactions on the blockchain ethereum. In the crypto world, the terms ether and ethereum have become interchangeable.

Ether futures contracts were launched on CME derivatives exchanges earlier this month.
